Blog:No emails required

From Obby Wiki

You can now create an account without an email!

The Obby Wiki no longer requires an email address to sign up or edit

In effect as of two days ago, June 30th (2026), the Obby Wiki no longer requires that new users enter and verify a valid email address to sign up for the service. As a collaborative and community-first editing platform (wiki), we believe that there should be as low of a barrier to entry in order to contribute to our site as possible. That's why the requirement is being removed. The create account page should now show '(optional)' next to the email address option, and you can sign up without adding one. Please be aware of the added security benefits towards your account that attaching an email will bring. Eventually, we wish to allow users without an account permission to edit once there is enough capacity to moderate these changes.

As for why emails were required in the first place:

Originally, emails were disabled on the Obby Wiki until March. Following a spam campaign which saw a large amount of fake users join the wiki (presumably to hide and then spam), account creations were locked. While this did stop the spam accounts, this also prevented a lot of real users from creating an account. Since two Turnstile verifications are now required to 1) access the page and 2) create an account, we now believe that there are enough protections in place to prevent spam accounts.

Thank you! And, to any new users, please read the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

Update: July 3rd

An issue occurred where this change was reverted. It has now been fixed, and all users should be able to create an account and edit on the Obby Wiki without verifying an email address. Please contact us if you have any issues regarding sign-up.
