Difficulty:Effortless

Effortless is the first and easiest canonical difficulty taking roughly no effort to complete this difficulty, hence the name 'effortless'. Obbies rated at an Effortless level contain little-to-no jumps and are typically hard to fail unintentionally. Some games even go as far as to add invisible guard rails to their obby to ensure players do not fail where they are not supposed to. Traditionally, most games that incorporate Effortless typically treat it closer to Very Easy, as pure effortless gameplay is seen as boring and not fun. This is the same reason it was removed from EToH.
Gameplay
Pure Effortless gameplay is very easy, often requiring no effort in terms of gameplay. The only effort required is the time it takes to complete an Effortless obby. There are no jumps you can fail and little-to-no challenging or advanced mechanics, making gameplay feel very dull. Paths and walkways are big to ensure no player accidentally walks off the edge. Overall, pure Effortless gameplay is essentially just walking (much like Tier 1).
History
Effortless originated from the popular Tower Obby game Eternal Towers of Hell (EoTH), originally belonging to 'Tower of Slight Unhappiness', an Effortless tower in the game. Both the tower (ToSU) and Effortless were later removed from EoTH in May of 2019 for being 'boring' and having little-to-no opportunities for engaging gameplay, often resulting in repetitive stages that were poor to play. Essentially it was too easy. Despite this, Effortless is still incorporated in many difficulty chart obbies and is still the first difficulty in the majority of new DCOs.[citation needed]
While originally described as a dark green color, it has grown to be depicted by most obbies as a shade of grey, likely representing and contributing to its overall dull undertone. Despite its origins, Effortless is now only incorporated in obbies outside of EoTH, with some games going even easier to non-canon difficulties such as Cakewalk or Automatic.
Trivia
- Effortless is most commonly associated with Tier 1.
- Pure-Effortless gameplay is rare. Most gameplay labelled 'Effortless' is usually considered to be a low form of Easy or non-canonical Very Easy.
- It is considered one of the most commonly occurring difficulties, sometimes being considered as the second most common difficulty, next to Effortless.[citation needed]
