Blog:Happy 1 Year Annivesary

From Obby Wiki

Happy 1 Year Anniversary to the Obby Wiki!

It has been 1 full year since the Obby Wiki was created.

This blog post was imported from the Obby Forum.

This blog post was originally posted in ObbyWiki/Meta on the Obby Forum, but is now here instead. Its formatting and other details have been changed appropriately.

Here, it is officially the 1st of April, 2026, exactly 1 year after the Obby Wiki was founded. Happy 1st birthday to the Obby Wiki Project!

Since being founded only one year ago, we’ve already reached over 100 content pages with over 60,000 words across all of them. That’s 100 pages, but over 530 images and 3,200+ edits. Those are some well-attended pages!

We’ve grown a lot since the start of April last year, including founding this sister forum only 3 months afterwards. There’s still a long way to go and by no means are we there yet, but it’s important to reflect on where we’ve come from and how far we’ve already gone!

If today was the 1st of April, 2025, then:

If today was the 1st of April, 2025, then:

  • 3 days from now we’d have officially cemented our name as obbywiki.com
  • A month later we’d reach 25 pages already, with many more coming
  • Around 3 months from now we will create the Obby Forum itself
  • Around 5 months later we’d incorporate InfoboxNeue and create the ObbyGameInfobox, later adapting it to fetch live data automatically
  • 8 months later we’d add filters to search for an obby by its creation year, month, or both
  • 9 months later we’d reach over 50,000 valuable words written across all our content articles/pages
  • 10 months from now we will create our first MediaWiki extension and list the public source code under the MIT License: https://github.com/obbywiki/mediawiki-extensions-DiscourseIntegration
  • Next we’d implement Cargo and turn the Obby Wiki into a semantic database of all obbies documented, allowing easy search for any obby a player wants.
  • 11 months from now we’d completely remake our Main Page, changing it to Home and writing custom HTML in order to achieve perfection in it: https://github.com/obbywiki/mediawiki-extensions-ObbyWikiHomePage
  • We’d speed up page editing and creation times with our custom [Roblox Place Media Extractor extension for MediaWiki](https://github.com/obbywiki/mediawiki-extensions-RobloxPlaceMediaExtractor)
  • Further on we’d make many advancements, including making our own edge infrastructure to speed up page loads, investing into our own Dynamic JSON-LD extension, we’d begin our new Obby Interwiki Project, and so much more

That’s a lot of things done in just one year! Could you believe that’s not even beginning to scratch the surface? Also, if this is the first time you’re hearing about our custom extensions, try checking out or [GitHub](https://github.com/obbywiki); you’ll be blown away!

This hasn’t come without contest, though. Let’s go through some issues we’ve faced as an independent wiki competing with wiki farms like Fandom and Miraheze.

While we’ve been able to do so much more than what building our community on Fandom could’ve done for us, it’s also a large barrier to get seen, even if our content is ‘better’. We’ve taken a lot of time to ensure everything is technically sound for the Obby Wiki. Every fact is accurate and checked, everything is up to code, etc.

Still, nothing comes easy, and unfortunately despite declining quality, Google is still the primary search engine. However, we rank on and highly on every other search engine. Some even place us above the (dead) Fandom wiki, and one even ranks us highly for the general term ‘Obby’! This is a small win, but still exciting for a new wiki like us.

If that was all the hardship we’d been facing, then that would be too easy! No, no, no, we get to deal with AI content bots aggressively scraping our most expensive (yet least data rich?) pages constantly. We’ve done a lot to mitigate this and the service now remains largely stable. We recommend reading this article from Weird Gloop: https://weirdgloop.org/blog/clankers !

Anyway, as we’ve stated, we’re officially commited to running this project **at LEAST** to the 1st of January, 2027, with hopes of expanding our **minimum** commitment later this year.
