Introducing the RobloxMediaExtractor

Archiving just got easier.

This blog post was imported from the Obby Forum.

This blog post was originally posted in ObbyWiki/Meta on the Obby Forum, but is now here instead. Its formatting and other details have been changed appropriately.

We're dedicated to improving the UX and day-to-day QoL of our wiki editors. We've heard that downloading and ensuring every thumbnail and icon makes it to the archive with the correct name, format, etc. is quite the tedious task.

That's why we're extremely excited to share our new overkill tool to quickly extract and download place icons and thumbnails in the correct format near instantly. This tool is available today for anyone, even logged out!

Try it out today: https://obbywiki.com/wiki/Special:RobloxPlaceMediaExtractor Or, see it on GitHub: https://github.com/obbywiki/mediawiki-extensions-RobloxPlaceMediaExtractor

Thank you for choosing to help and edit the Obby Wiki!

Adding on to this:

This makes downloading really fast, but there’s a bit to go:

You may need to rename the files. Currently, due to rate limitations, the file names currently look something like: obby_13058_icon.webp, when instead, they should look more like game_name_here_icon_1.webp. Feel free to use the original name, but consider renaming them. We know this isn’t ideal and we may have a solution in the future.
