Obby Pages
More actions
An Obby Page is a dedicated page or article specifically about a single obby. Usually an obby article contains overview information such as what regular gameplay consists of, what the detail and setting is of the obby, and other sub-genre specific factors. For example, a Tower Obby's page will be different than one of a Difficulty Chart Obby, with one having a section for Towers and the other having a section for Difficulties instead.
What should be included on an Obby Page
edit sourceObby Pages are meant can be both shallow and detailed depending on the game. For example, an obby game such as Eternal Towers of Hell cannot have all of its content on one singular page, as that job is better suited towards an entire dedicated wiki, such as the Eternal Towers of Hell Wiki. However, a smaller game with a lot of content such as Obby Master or Master's Difficulty Chart Obby are suitable to have the majority of their content on a single wiki page instead. You can put as much relevant information on any obby page, but if there is an existing community wiki, you should consider whether the content is duplicative or is better suited for the dedicated wiki.
What qualifies for an Obby Page
edit sourceThe Obby Wiki is dedicated to documentation and archival of obbies, and therefore has little in terms of eligibility requirements. The majority of obbies, however new, old, popular, niche, etc., can be documented on the Obby Wiki. However, as a general rule of thumb, mass-produced obbies that follow templated clones or simply just AI-generated nonsense obbies cannot have their own page made. If there is any doubt on whether or not a page you want to create is eligible, you can consult the eligibility requirements page for the most up to date criteria.
Developers of obbies are also invited to create documentation for their own obbies on the wiki.
Contributing
edit sourceMaking an Obby Page (with the Article Flow)
edit sourceThe article flow modal is a helpful tool that any signed-in contributor can use to get a quick boilerplate specific to their obby. New contributors are encouraged to use this tool as it makes what is usually a tedious process a lot easier and includes significant benefits, such as:
- Automatic prefeteching
- Automatic thumbnail uploading
- Easier to follow template usage (although contributors are still encouraged to learn how to use templates)
- Automatic page layouts
- ...and more
For a tutorial showcasing how to use the tool to create an obby page, see here: https://obby.wiki/Blog:Create_an_obby_article_easily For a more general reference showcasing its abilities: https://obby.wiki/Help:Article_flow
Making an Obby Page (manually)
edit sourceWhile previously easy, the Obby Wiki has grown in complexity, which is why new contributors are encouraged to use the article flow tool instead, rather than creating an article from scratch. In some rare events where that is not possible, you can follow the guide below.
Before continuing, make sure you havve read the relevant parts of Help:Contributing before making a new obby page, as well as the eligibility requirements.
On the Obby Wiki, making a dedicated Obby Page for a game is relatively complex. The main difficult points involve: learning templates such as , uploading images for the first time, and writing as much relevant information as possible.
{{ObbyGameInfobox}}
Tip: Use the Special:RobloxPlaceMediaExtractor tool to download and automatically format images just from the game's URL or ID. This tool also provides the universe ID, which is required for some templates.
After signing into your account and finding the obby you want to document on the wiki, open the Command Palette via pressing the / key. If you are on mobile, press the search button instead. Type the name of the obby your page is about. Either an option to create the page will appear, or an option to search for it. If there is no create or edit button, search the page and follow the first red link. By now, you should be in the editor.
Begin by selecting the template (or 'boilerplate'). This will provide you with a basic obby page for you to begin editing. The first part of the page is the Obby Infobox. See the documentation for the infobox at {{ObbyGameInfobox}}. This is more than an infobox. It stores almost all relevant data and organizes your page for you. Use it carefully.
After filling in the infobox, it's on you to document the obby in as much detail as you see reasonable. Please get articles to over 300 words in general, and especially before removing the {{Stub}} template.
