This is the about page for the Obby Wiki itself. For information on what an obby is, see Obby.
The Obby Wiki (or OW) is an independent and community-run wiki for all information and archives about Roblox obbies that anyone can improve on and contribute to.
If you're looking for how to contribute, featured obbies, and new up-to-date information on obbies that just released, check out our home page. We think it would be perfect if that's you.
We are not endorsed by or affiliated with Roblox, read our disclaimers page for more.
How can I contribute?
Anyone is free to create an account and begin editing. We recommend new contributors start by reading our Contributing guide as it covers the basics on creating and editing new articles, as well as their eligibility requirements.
The Obby Wiki was founded on the 1st of April, 2025. Since then, we have collected over 2,385 pages and 508 articles, through 6,677 edits from 102 users and counting! Consider joining the wiki, you can learn more below.
As seen above, the Obby Wiki has collectively documented 395 obbies, making us the largest obby database ever. Obbies are categorized into multiple sub-genres. Below is a list of some sub-genres you can start browsing from.
Our goal is to document every single eligible obby possible. If you want to, you can also use the Obby Wiki as a discoverability platform for Roblox obbies. You can browse by tiers, allowing you to find as many obbies within your skill range as possible. For example, every documented Tier 11 obby.
Why make an account
You can make an account on the Obby Wiki at any time. In order to use features such as editing, tracking your contributions to the wiki, or participating in discussions, you will need to log in and create an account. This ensures that we can keep a high quality bar for all our contributors and articles.
When you make an account, the information you provide will be collected appropriately. If you use a third-party provider, then information shared between that provider and the Obby Wiki will be used solely to either create your account or log you in. Then, your account from that provider will be connected with your Obby Wiki account, allowing you to login with that provider at any time. Only data necessary to link your accounts and log you in is retained. The Obby Wiki does not retain access tokens, you can read more about this in our Privacy Policy.
History
Backstory
The Obby Wiki was founded originally at obbywiki.com on the 1st of April in 2025 by @Wolf1te as a focused replacement for both the abandoned Legacy Obby Wiki and the Roblox Obbies Wiki on Fandom. The Obby Wiki (sometimes previously referred to as the 'Modern' Obby Wiki) was the first obby-focused or obby-adjacent wiki to sustain itself without the help of a host/wiki-farm such as Fandom.
Timeline (prior to the founding of the Obby Wiki)
September 2020: The original Roblox Obby Wiki was founded on the 6th by 49dr, originally on Fandom. This is known today as the Legacy (Roblox) Obby Wiki. There is no affiliation today between the legacy wiki and the modern Obby Wiki.
May 2024: An attempt was made to reformat the then abandoned Legacy Roblox Obby Wiki, but that fell short. Another attempt was made to create the Roblox Obbies Wiki by @Wolf1te, which could be free of the debts of the Legacy Wiki, but that was also abandoned.
April 2025: The Obby Wiki was founded on the 1st by @Wolf1te as not an alternative, but a direct replacement to the Legacy Wiki and the Roblox Obbies Wiki. This is what the Obby Wiki is today, and you can read more about what has happened since then below.
Evolution & Change Archives
This section highlights changes by day and how the Obby Wiki evolved. Please note it is not conclusive and there may be a lot of missing details. This section is purely for notes on how the Obby Wiki's systems evolved, not what was documented on it.
2025
The Obby Wiki was founded in 2025. While still the most defining year, there was very little activity in this year.
April
April 1st 2025:
The Obby Wiki was officially founded. The database was set up, the first user account (User:Wlft) was created, and the logo was created.
This page, the Project:About page, was protected at 21:55.
April 2nd 2025:
The Citizen skin was setup on the wiki, officially becoming the default skin for the wiki.
The first navigation box was created, Navigation:CopyrendTowerSeries. This navigation template manually listed every tower obby by this development group and required manual updates. Today, editors can use the {{AlsoBy|...}} template to automatically list every obby created by a user/group on the Obby Wiki.
August
August 27th 2025:
The {{DifficultiesV1}} template was created to list all of the difficulties in a difficulty chart obby, for example. It is currently not in use.
August 31st 2025:
InfoboxNeue was imported, as well as many other modules from the Star Citizen Wikis.
The modern {{ObbyGameInfobox}} was created with limited function compared to its modern form. It was fitted in as a replacement to the previous template, {{ObbyInfobox}}, and used InfoboxNeue.
October
October 11th 2025:
{{RobloxBadges}} was created, a template which automatically listed every badge from a Roblox game (obby) via its universe ID only.
December
December 5th 2025:
The {{ObbyGameInfobox}} template began categorizing every obby into Month, Year, and Month Year categories, such as December 2025.[1]
December 20th 2025:
The guilded parameter is deprecated from {{ObbyGameInfobox}}, as Guilded was shut down on the 19th.[2]
DiscourseIntegration, the first extension built by the Obby Wiki was created to bridge the Obby Wiki and the now defunct Obby Forum. The extension is currently archived on GitHub.
February 8th 2026:
The 'random obby' button was added to the sidebar, allowing anyone to get a random obby page (Special:RandomInCategory/Obby).
March
March 1st 2026:
The ObbyWikiHomePage extension was officially created. It later replaced the original main page and originally launched with a highlights carousel, sub-genre links, and contributing links.
As part of this, the main page was moved from 'Main Page' was moved to 'Home'.
March 8th 2026:
Cargo support was introduced into the Obby Wiki via the largest template, {{ObbyGameInfobox}}, allowing obbies to be queried automatically by other wiki pages and templates.
The {{AlsoBy}} template was created with the recent Cargo improvements, which pulls every obby released by a group or developer and lists them by sub-genre.
March 9th 2026:
SMTP was finalized and users were now able to use regular MediaWiki email functions.
The RobloxPlaceMediaExtractor extension was released, allowing contributors to pull and download thumbnails and icons from Roblox games in a high-quality WebP format quickly.
The {{FAQ}} template was released. Editors could now set questions and answers.
This release also coincided with the {{ObbyFAQ}} template, which automatically constructed {{FAQ}} templates with preset questions and answers from the Cargo data.
March 11th 2026:
The Obby Wiki footer extension was created.
March 16th 2026:
The first player page was created as @Wolf1te, originally as a live test page for the {{PlayerInfobox}} template.
March 21st 2026:
The Obby Wiki deployed an optimized edge API to automatically query all required Roblox API endpoints faster than it is possible in Scribunto.

April 5th 2026:
The WikiWireBot user account was created on the wiki.
April 6th 2026:
WikiWire, the CI tool which automatically uploads modules and templates from GitHub onto MediaWiki was created by the Obby Wiki.
Later, most modules from the Obby Wiki eventually used this tool to automatically upload transpiled Luau code.
May
No recorded events during May 2026.
June
June 6th 2026:
The Obby Wiki officially completes its domain migration from obbywiki.com to obby.wiki. Along with this change, the article path was changed from /wiki/Article to simply /Article, as well as the home page being served at just obby.wiki, instead of obbywiki.com/wiki/Home.
As part of the domain migration, a new Cloudflare origin certificate was implemented, providing the Obby Wiki with complete SSL coverage, which was previously dubious.
June 7th 2026:
The Obby Wiki Article Flow (Vue) extension was officially released, allowing editors to easily create a boilerplate article with information available automatically pulled from Roblox APIs so editors had to do less work to get started writing. Editors could simply put in their title, choose a layout, paste in the Roblox URL, answer any remaining questions, and the extension would guide them through automatically uploading every thumbnail/icon and then generate the wikitext boilerplate where the editor can open the page and start writing.
The complete extension name is 'ObbyWikiArticleFlowVue'.
This was considered a major breakthrough for the Obby Wiki.
This release coincided with the domain migration on the 6th, but was separate.
June 10th 2026:
The {{MonthSummary}} template was introduced to Month Year directories like September 2025. This template pulls live cargo data from every obby released in that month and year and summarizes the sub-genres, including the most popular obby released in that month as well as the most frequent sub-genre.
The {{Cn}} (aka. the 'citation needed') template became available.
June 17th 2026:
The Obby Wiki began documenting other obby-adjacent wikis, with the Wiki category eventually being created, starting with the old Roblox Difficulty Chart Obby Wiki.
The first test run of the TrendingArticles extension started. This new extension started tracking page view counts on every content page on the Obby Wiki, as well as displaying the articles with the most views in the last week per-category, similar to Fandom.
The Obby Wiki was placed under maintenance due to a server upgrade. No edits were allowed during this time as they may have been lost during the migration. The edit freeze lasted 26 hours and the database was rolled back. Some historical data from this date, such as total wiki page views for June 26th 2026, may be missing.
June 27th 2026:
The Obby Wiki's server and backend infrastructure was successfully migrated to NGINX (previously running Apache2). Along with this came many improvements such as Redis caching, LuaSandbox support, wikidiff2 support, and more. Almost every page takes two seconds or less to load, or 3-4 seconds cache-less at most, but sometimes even less.
June 28th 2026:
Namespaces 'Difficulty:' and 'OW:' (the project namespace) began counting towards the total content pages number.
June 29th 2026:
{{WikiInfobox}} now stores data via Cargo, allowing the {{WikiNavplate}} to update itself automatically when a new wiki is documented.
Support for browsing documented wikis by platform/host (Fandom, Miraheze, and Independent) was added.
The Obby Wiki surpassed the 200 pages milestone, being at only 192 pages the previous day.
The first transpiled const assignment was used in a module.
Sign ups no longer required an email address, and users could now edit pages without needing to add one.[4]
July
July 1st 2026:
The footer was revamped and four categories of links were introduced. This followed four months after the complete reimplementation of the Citizen skin's footer.
The revamped Obby Wiki blog becomes available on the wiki with most historical posts from the old Obby Forum imported and archived.
July 4th 2026:
The ObbyWiki Shared Modules & Templates Repository (obbywiki/modules or OWSMT) was set to public on GitHub. At the time 80% of active code was written in Luau, so unminified module source code was relatively rare on-wiki.
July 5th 2026:
The Obby Wiki began using CentralAuth, providing the login service at auth.obby.wiki now instead, designed for future plans.
July 6th 2026:
The Obby Wiki reaches over 100,000 total words on the wiki!
July 8th 2026:
The 'This Month' link was added to the home page archive section.
July 9th 2026:
Bot fight mode was disabled, allowing access for every bot to use api.php without the chance of being blocked.
The Project: namespace was restricted to administrators.
July 10th 2026:
The Obby Wiki updates to MediaWiki 1.45.4.
July 11th 2026:
The Obby Wiki updates to MediaWiki 1.46.0.
The Obby Wiki implements NewAuth, a new extension which allows for login via OAuth providers Google and Discord. Future plans include Roblox OAuth, but that required a manual app review at the time.
The Obby Wiki reaches 250 pages!
July 12th 2026:
The Obby Wiki reaches 300 articles, and later 350 articles!
Updated to Citizen 3.18 (still on the preview channel).

The Obby Wiki reaches 500 articles, a very significant milestone!
July 23st 2026:
The ObbyWikiHomePage extension began providing a 'Trending this week' section powered by TrendingArticles.
Minimum Service Commitment Date
The Obby Wiki remains committed to keep the lights on to at least January 1st, 2027. We plan to remain operational much longer and until there is no demand at all, but at the bare minimum we will remain in service to at least that date. You can trust us with your time and contributions. We're always bumping our minimum commitment date, so check back later!
For Developers
The Obby Wiki has multiple open source projects that MediaWiki developers may be interested in. There is a whole sub-page about this at About/for_developers, which you should visit for more details. For a quick list of projects you may be interested in, see here:
For MediaWiki developers
A few projects may be of interest for developers in the MediaWiki scene:
WikiWire, a powerful CI automation tool to sync Git repository files to live on-wiki MediaWiki modules and templates. It also has the ability to sync configuration pages under the MediaWiki namespace. WikiWire was developed specifically for our use-cases, but can also benefit others!
Our modules repository, also known as the OW Shared Modules & Templates repository, or OWSMT for short, is the shared repository where we store all the raw source code to the modules that power the wiki. Since many of them are written in Luau and minified, then automatically uploaded via the aforementioned WikiWire tool, their source may be unavailable for viewing elsewhere.
The Obby Wiki has undergone 1 anniversary since its founding date in 2025.

Verify a domain
It is very important to verify the identity of a domain before trusting it. We only operate the obby wiki at obby.wiki (as of June 2026) and at subdomains of obby.wiki. Below are some domains we use for other purposes. Please note that you should only login on obby.wiki, and no other site/domain needs your login details.
obby.wiki: The official operational domain since June 2026.
obbywiki.com: The legacy domain, retired June 2026. Still in use for some developer infrastructure.
obby.dev: Mainly used for hosting documentation related to the Obby Wiki.
All subdomains of the domains listed above are safe and secure. Our official login domain is auth.obby.wiki, please ensure your browser is using HTTPS before logging in.
FAQ
Is the Obby Wiki hosted by Fandom?
No, the Obby Wiki is not on Fandom nor is it hosted by Fandom. The Obby Wiki is independent and a direct and modern replacement to the old and outdated Fandom 'Roblox Obby Wiki'. Unlike the legacy obby wiki on Fandom, we begun with more strict content guidelines and quality expectations, as well as more technology and less artificial limits that were imposed on the (legacy) Roblox Obby Wiki and the (legacy) Roblox Obbies Wiki.
Why not Fandom?
Not being on Fandom was a deliberate choice and no mistake. While self-hosting is far more complex and almost unheard of in the Roblox wiki scene, it allows for much more possibilities that just are not possible on Fandom. If we were on Fandom today and they wanted us out, they could delete the entire wiki without a moment's notice. In fact, this did occur to one of @Wolf1te's previous projects on Fandom, and was one of the defining early reasons to not choose Fandom.
Where is the Obby Wiki hosted?
The Obby Wiki is an independent wiki powered by MediaWiki and hosted on DigitalOcean. Use our referral code to get $200 free in credit for your first 60 days. After you use your $200 credit, or after 60 days, whichever is first, the next $25 you spend will completely go to our hosting bills. Get some free credit and help the wiki.
What is the difference between obby.wiki (fka. obbywiki.com) and obby.fandom.com
The Obby Wiki (obby.wiki) is the website you are currently viewing, while obby.fandom.com is the legacy Fandom wiki. The legacy wiki is old and outdated with no acting administrators. Additionally, it was mainly focused on tier obbies. The (modern) Obby Wiki also covers tier obbies extensively, but in addition to every other known sub-genre of obby. The Obby Wiki is the largest database of obbies ever, with more obbies documented in the tier obby sub-genre than the legacy wiki has in total articles.
For editors switching over
Editors switching over from obby.fandom.com should learn to use the Obby Wiki's customized features such as:
The create new article button from our Article Flow tool to create an obby page boilerplate in seconds, rather than manually. You can start with just a few questions to get a customized article template from which you can then iterate and improve on.
The Roblox Difficulty Chart Obby Wiki 'merged' with the Obby Wiki in the sense that all efforts and resources have been moved to supporting the Obby Wiki, and in turn the Obby Wiki houses DCO-specific architecture which both matches and exceeds the functionality of the old wiki. Articles have to be created manually following the Obby Wiki's best practices. New contributors should grow accustomed to the Obby Wiki rather quickly. If you want a few example pages, check out the Difficulty Chart Obby sub-genre category.
